STEAM Summer Camp Athletic Coordinator

Pay rate: $20-$30/hr
Location: Cambridge, MA
Hours: 10AM to 6PM
Period: June – August, with possibility of school-year work!

The Experience:
Are you an expert at small group physical games and outdoor play? Are you looking for a fun summer experience where you can enrich and expand the overall program experience? Would you like to develop important leadership skills and showcase your ability to create engaging activities? If you said yes, then consider joining The Robo Hub this summer as our Athletic Coordinator.

At The Robo Hub we provide a well-rounded experience for kids who are interested in tech – that includes at least one hour of physical activity for our campers each day. You will have the opportunity to work with small groups of no more than 10 campers to take fun breaks during their learning adventures. You will have the support of some of their classroom teachers during their time with you. Your activities will usually take place outside, right across the street at Danehy Park. When the weather does not permit going outside, there will still be plenty of space inside our 7,000 sq ft building.

You don’t have to love tech, but we hope that you will be excited to see what our campers have created – we’re sure they’ll want to show off their hard work to you! Your most important responsibility will be to help keep our campers safe, happy, and engaged.

About you:

You should have:

  • Experience leading kids aged 5 – 14 in group physical activities
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of fun, physical games
The ability to adapt games to students with different needs and to different locations

The person in this role must be at least 21 years old. If you do not have previous administrative experience with a camp, you will also need to complete additional training.

Ideally you also have:

  • A large toolkit of unique games and activities and a deep familiarity with all the classic games campers already love and expect to see at camp
  • First Aid and CPR certifications. We would especially love someone who has effectively managed First Aid in the context of the vigorous outdoor activity that will occur under your supervision in this role.
  • An interest in learning enough about the tech we teach to appreciate what our students want to share with you!
  • Experience working with neurodiverse students or students with different learning needs

As part of the Cambridge community, we particularly encourage graduates of or current students at local universities to apply.

Core Responsibilities:

As the Athletic Coordinator you will be expected to:

  • Create activity plans for each day that are appropriate for the age of campers expected.
  • Cheerfully adapt your plans to accommodate current conditions including camper preferences, camper ability, and the weather.
  • Set clear expectations for behavior and manage any challenging behaviors that arise
  • Support students in navigating big feelings, including extreme excitement and self-doubt as they overcome challenges
  • Clearly explain the rules for unfamiliar activities to campers and other staff.
  • Facilitate the formation of friendships and health competition.
  • Oversee the indoor activities for children during our Extended Day program until 5:30.

Expect to:

  • Work ~40 hours a week and communicate any absences in advance
  • Master all training and orientation materials
  • Engage sincerely in feedback cycles regarding strengths and areas of improvement
  • Maintain a professional appearance and attitude at all times, including not using electronic devices for personal purposes as you work
