First Lego League Explore (FLL)

Mon and Thur, 4-6PM

Ages 6-9
Start Date: 01/06/2026

(modifications/accommodations offered by instructor)

Course Focus: Full Semester

FIRST LEGO League Explore is designed for elementary school children aged 6 to 9. Each year, students, as an entire class, dive into an exciting topic in science and technology. Along the way, they playfully explore the world of programming using a LEGO® Education robotics set and create a motorized LEGO model.

The spring season for First Lego League is the offseason, meaning we will not travel around Massachusetts to attend competitions, but if the student continues with FLL in the fall, they will have scrimmages and showcases! During the semester, students design and build LEGO models – often with simple moving parts – while learning basic STEM concepts and problem-solving skills. Throughout the process, they brainstorm ideas, document their progress in an engineering notebook, and prepare to share their project and model with others at an FLL Explore festival, which we will host at The Robo Hub this semester

Learning Objectives

Month 1

Students learn the season’s theme, explore the challenge, and begin brainstorming ideas for their LEGO model.

Month 2

Kids start building and testing simple LEGO structures while practicing teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Month 3

Teams add moving parts with LEGO motors or simple mechanisms and refine their overall model design.

Month 4

Students document their progress in their engineering notebooks and prepare their team poster.

Month 5

Teams finalize their model, practice sharing their ideas, and get ready to present at The Robo Hub FLL Explore festival.
