VEX GO ROBOTICS
Build. Code. Explore.
The Robo Hub’s Entry-Level Robotics Program
VEX GO Robotics introduces young students to engineering, robotics, and coding through fun, hands-on projects. Students begin by learning how structures and machines work, then progress into building robots, programming with VEXcode GO, using sensors, and completing team-based robotics challenges. Each project encourages creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, and the Engineering Design Process.
Learning Journey
VEX GO Robotics Program
Build. Code. Explore.
Eight hands-on projects take students from their very first build to a final robotics challenge. Each project runs four lessons and builds on the last, so students grow from learning how structures work to programming sensors and completing autonomous missions.

1
Mars Builder

Explore the VEX GO Kit and learn how beams, plates, pins, connectors, wheels, axles, and gears work together. Students complete creative building challenges while learning stability, balance, and the fundamentals of engineering design.
Key skills: Building · Structure · Stability · Wheels and Axles · Gears

2
Simple Machines Lab
4 Lessons
Discover how engineers use simple machines to make work easier. Students build and experiment with inclined planes, levers, wheels and axles, and gears while exploring force, motion, and mechanical advantage.
Key skills: Force and Motion · Lever · Wheel and Axle · Gears · Experimentation

3
Parade Engineer

Build a VEX GO Code Base and transform it into a creative robotic parade float. Students combine mechanical design with introductory programming while learning how to control distance, movement, and turning.
Key skills: Code Base · Robot Design · Motor Control · Distance · Turning

4
Robot Jobs
4 Lessons
Discover how robots perform real-world jobs that may be dull, dirty, or dangerous for people. Students build and program a Code Base robot to move through different environments and complete job-based challenges.
Key skills: VEXcode GO · Sequencing · Forward and Reverse · Turning · Problem Solving

5
Smart Robot
4 Lessons
Make robots smarter by adding sensors. Students use the LED Bumper and Eye Sensor to detect objects, recognize colors, and make the robot react automatically to its environment.
Key skills: Sensors · Color Detection · Conditions · Autonomous Behavior · Coding

6
Robot Arm Factory
4 Lessons
Explore how robotic arms are used to pick up, move, and sort objects. Students progress from a mechanical Robot Arm to motorized and coded versions using motors, the Electromagnet, and Eye Sensor.
Key skills: Robot Arms · Motors · Electromagnet · Sensors · Automation

7
Mars Rover Mission
4 Lessons
Become a robotic planetary explorer! Students build and program a Mars Rover to collect, analyze, and sort rock samples using the Eye Sensor and Electromagnet. Students combine mechanical design, sensors, and increasingly advanced programming to complete autonomous missions.
Key skills: Autonomous Coding · Eye Sensor · Electromagnet · Loops · Decision Making

8
VEX GO Challenge
4 Lessons
Put everything together in a final robotics challenge. Students build and drive a VEX GO Hero Robot, practice different missions, develop team strategies, and participate in a classroom mini-competition. This project introduces students to competition-style robotics and prepares interested students for their next step into VEX IQ.
Key skills: Hero Robot · Driver Skills · Strategy · Teamwork · Engineering Challenge · Mini Competition
Robot Building · Mechanical Engineering · VEXcode GO · Sensors · Simple Machines · Engineering Design · Problem Solving · Teamwork
VEX GO Robotics Adventure
One Week Summer Camp: Build. Drive. Code. Compete.
A one-week robotics adventure where students build VEX GO robots, learn to drive and code them, complete engineering missions, redesign for performance, and finish the week with a friendly mini-competition. The camp gives younger students the full robotics cycle in one week: build, test, program, improve, and compete.

1
Build Your Hero Robot
Day 1
Students explore the VEX GO system and build a competition-style Hero Robot. They learn how the drivetrain, motors, wheels, gears, arm, and other mechanisms work together, then complete introductory driving and control challenges.
Activities: Robot Building · Hero Robot · Driving · Basic Mechanisms · Teamwork · Obstacle Challenge

2
Mars Mission
Day 2
Students become robotic space explorers. Teams use their Hero Robots to complete Mars-inspired missions such as collecting samples, moving objects, rescuing equipment, and planning efficient scoring routes. The focus shifts from simply driving to mission strategy.
Activities: Mars Missions · Object Manipulation · Driver Skills · Route Planning · Strategy

3
Smart Robot Challenge
Day 3
Students move from driver control to autonomous behavior. Using VEXcode GO and sensors, they program robots to move accurately, detect objects, react to the environment, and complete progressively harder coding missions.
Activities: VEXcode GO · Autonomous Driving · Sensors · Sequencing · Conditions · Debugging

4
Sumo BattleBot
Day 4
Students redesign their robots for a friendly Sumo-style engineering challenge. Teams experiment with traction, weight distribution, robot shape, gearing, pushing strategy, and defensive design, then improve their robots through repeated test rounds.
Activities: Robot Redesign · Gears · Traction · Strategy · Testing · BattleBot Tournament

5
VEX GO Competition Day
Day 5
Students combine everything learned during the week. Teams improve their robots, practice missions, choose a final strategy, rotate through team roles, and participate in a classroom VEX GO mini-competition with awards and a final reflection.
Activities: Robot Improvement · Driver Practice · Strategy · Teamwork · Competition · Awards
